Preparation

Preheat your oven to 200°C / 400°F. Place the baguette on an oven rack and bake for 10–12 minutes. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 5–10 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract.

Add the milk and mix well.

Slice the baguette diagonally into generous slices.

Dip each slice into the mixture and allow it to soak until both sides of the bread are soft.

Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook each slice for 1–2 minutes on each side. Sprinkle both sides with brown cane sugar until golden.
7.
Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit and lemon zest.
Our tip: for perfect French toast, we recommend baking the bread the day before.
